We're gonna solve for #y# this time because in the first equation it is #y# and in the second it is #2y# so it'll be easier
#1^(st) equation#
#2x-y=5#
Transfer #2x#
#-y=5-2x#
Transfer the minus(-)
#y=-(5-2x)#
#y=-5+2x#
If you didn't understand what I did there... simply think I multiplied both sides by #-1#
#2^(nd)equation#
#3x+2y=4#
Put value of #y#
#3x+2xx(-5+2x)=4#
Expand
#3x-10+4x=4#
Solve and transfer #10#
#7x=4+10#
#7x=14#
Transfer #7#
#x=14/7#
